What are key concepts of privacy and security and how can you apply this to your life?
Janye Stanley-period 4
ReplyDeletePrivacy is something that every human being wants to have. Having privacy is time to just be by yourself and just think. Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about one another or themselves, and thereby express themselves selectively. In my opinion privacy is very important. I feel like everyone needs privacy because they might need time to think, work, or just be by themselves. Security is also related to privacy. Security refers to how your personal information is protected. Personal information is privacy. Personal information is something that you don't want anybody else knowing but yourself. which is privacy. Privacy is essential to human beings. It gives us space to be ourselves without judgement, allows us to think freely without discrimination. It gives us time to think about who we are as a person and how we can change. You can apply this to your life as well. For example, if you had a bad day and you just want time to yourself, you can go home and have privacy where you are by yourself and you have time to think to yourself. Having security is also important in life as well. Sometimes people have security so that they can have privacy and think to themselves without people being in their faces about everything or being judgmental. I feel like Privacy and security is something we all need especially in life as you progress. I am the type of person to where I think about how I can change everyday for the better of my life. With that I need privacy, and as well as security. As I get older I am going to be using these concepts a lot more for the better, and so I can be a successful person.

DeleteI agree with your response and find it very informative.
You did a good job explaining the importance of privacy, and spoke about it generally. As an introvert, it is crucial for me to have some time to myself like you mentioned. - Cristina
DeleteYour response was really well done and summarized privacy well making good points I agree with. has basically become essential to our daily lives including contact (especially right now with the quarantine), networking, and basic things we do in our daily lives like applying for college. Most of colleges are are common app what most seniors use to fill out college applications as well as scholarships, and FAFSA. These are all things with crucial information to your identity. I know I was scarred constantly working with paperwork and adding my information and this just makes me informed about the situation at hand I hope to continue learning and bettering my privacy in a open virtual world. (I would love a vpn)-Jessica

ReplyDeletePrivacy is a human right of fundamental importance. The right to privacy is enshrined in all major international and regional human rights instruments. Over 130 countries have constitutional statements on privacy protection. Increasingly we are not informed about the monitoring under which we are placed; how our personal data are collected, analyzed and shared. Nor has it been given the opportunity to challenge these practices. In addition, civil organizations often face threats while investigating state policies and practices or recording violations of the right to privacy. Notwithstanding international human rights law, it is all too normal for states and businesses to breach privacy. Technological advances have improved our capacity to protect privacy.

I think your paragraph is a really good introduction to security and privacy. I also think it's interesting how mentioned that technology improves our protection, because it simultaneously makes us more vulnerable to identity theft. - Cristina
DeleteI agree Jonathan. We are far too in the dark when it comes to knowing how are data is taken from us without our permission.

ReplyDeleteIdentity theft, which is account fraud, is more common these days than it was in the past because of the internet. Therefore, it is important for everyone to be careful when online, or even in real life. Somethings that are basic are being unique with your passwords, and not using your name or other telling information for your usernames. Another tip is to avoid putting out sensitive information, like your birthdate and address. You should also pay attention to your mail, since it could have sensitive information that thieves want to obtain. If you suspect that there is something strange going on, it is important for you to be quick, since a lot of damage can be done in a little bit of time. It can already be difficult to know when it is going on before this damage, but checking your credit report can help. Make sure to file an initial fraud report, identity theft report, and an extended fraud alert if it happens. Additionally, contact the credit bureaus and different businesses and begin a credit freeze. It’s best to avoid these problems though, so I added a website about technology, more specifically an article with recommendations for antivirus services.

I think you did an awesome job explaining the little aspects in regards to the situation. I was always skeptical about putting the personal information for apps or websites because it just seemed invasive to me personally and I think my family tries their best to protect information including owning a shredder but I never thought about the mail. Having known someone who was involved in identity theft and the impacts it
Deletecan have on someone is serious including financial and reputation . I wonder what is the best method of protecting myself in todays technology involved world but informing myself is the first step.-Jessica
I honestly believe you did a-great job conveying the message to me in a way I can understand properly.

Good points Christina. I've been fooled online to give personal information. It almost happened again yesterday but I caught it before I gave too much info!
DeleteJessica Ledesma Principles of Economics 4th period -As a person in our society, we all contain much information essential to keeping our finances organized, which is essential for taxes, and other daily situations that come up. We live in a society that is fastly changing along with our technological advancements, including the way we do things such as managing our expenses. In recent years, it has become very common to use phones and other smart devices to help keep track of our information and do things such as paying bills. Having smart devices, having some personal information, it is inevitable to possibly get your information stolen by hackers. When looking at our increasing use of technology we have to consider how to protect our information which could seriously affect us, and up costing us both financially and in the long term. With privacy you have to consider the unique aspects regarding privacy. This includes where you are storing your information which can have a lot of pros and cons. When looking at the situations where information is stored online or done virtually it is important to consider the safety measures looking people out from your things (strong passwords not easily accessed, software protecting from virus and vpns protecting your information, sometimes expensive, on what device and how: no saving passwords for hackers to easily find). You must consider the aspects of work that is hard copied. For information and things on paper, you must consider maintaining it. If you dispose of it properly, letting no trace of legible information for people to come across, this method is less likely to be stolen but can also be harder to find and keep organized depending on the length it is needed. With whatever method you use it is possible that information gets lost leading to identity theft, but you can try to prevent by organization, taking precautious steps, and keeping up with mistakes.
ReplyDeleteIdentity theft has recently been increasing in years with the integration of phone applications allowing easy access information of a person in our generation with no privacy. This has only further become the truth with the recent Corona pandemic (my article was
Pandemic-related identity theft is spiking: Here are 5 crucial ways to protect yourself). When looking at the situation people with people protecting themselves with staying indoors, we must consider how people are using virtual applications more with not much left to do, and this is true for application requiring financial information (30% increase recently) , "Breaches have become the third certainty in life behind death and taxes.” It is scary to think about everything happening. As I go on to college and work I will consider my protection and understanding the impacts of my actions.

This is so interesting Jessica! I never thought about how Covid 19 could affect privacy and security.
DeleteData privacy has always been important. It’s why many companies put ringlets on filing cabinet and rent rubber ty deposit boxes at their banks. But as more of our data point becomes digitized, and we share more entropy online, data privacy is taking on greater importance. A single company may possess the personal information of gazillion of customers—data that it needs to keep private so that customers’ identities stay as safe and protected as possible, and the company’s reputation remains untarnished. But data privacy isn’t just a line concern. You, as an individual, have a lot at stake when it comes to data privacy. The more you know about it, the better able you’ll be to help protect yourself from a large number of vulnerabilities.https://www.lifelock.com/learn-identity-theft-resources-what-is-data-privacy-and-why-is-it-important.html

I agree about you stating that the more you know about data privacy the better because many people these days don't look into their data privacy and its best to know soon rather than later. -kimberly

ReplyDeleteWhat are key concepts of privacy and security and how can you apply this to your life?
Privacy and security is something everyone should have the right to.
A few important key concepts about privacy and security are...
- Review your bank accounts.
- Use a strong password.
- Be cautious of what you post online.
Consistently reviewing your bank account is important because you can help secure your information by reporting any suspicious activity that you may see.
Choosing a strong password helps tremendously as well because it prevents financial fraud and identity theft. Hackers can easily break into a computer by simply guessing the password.
Lastly, be careful of how much you share about your life online. Once something is posted, it is never really private, even if the privacy settings are on. Think about this, when someone deletes a post, is it ever really deleted? The amount of information you post about your life can be used against you. Even by simply posting about your favorite local coffee shop can put you in so much danger. So when you post, try not to let your audience know about your location.
Post Wisely..

ReplyDeletePrivacy and security is something everyone has and has the right to have its something we should all think about and hold onto. Data privacy is focused on the use of personal information being collected. Whereas security focuses more on protecting data from attacks. I can apply this to my life by keeping my passwords private, not sharing networking sites, avoid fake emails, and safely put personal information where no one can get reach of it. Many people try to use advanced technology to get a hold of many peoples information for example like scammers and to avoid those just dont give them what they want like your social security.

ReplyDeletePrivacy to me is very important because, if we don't have it everyone is in our personal life. Having privacy also gives you time to think about yourself and your goals without anyone putting in their two cents. Protecting your personal information like your social number, birth certificate, your id stuff that you need in your everyday life as a person. I feel like Privacy and security is something we all need especially in life as you progress. I am the type of person to where I think about how I can change everyday for the better of my life. I agree with this
DeleteI liked how you were able to connect with real life but I would have loved for you to keep going (I'm going to give credit though)
DeletePrivacy is important because everyone doesn't want people to interfere with their personal lives.Protection and security are something everybody has and has the option to have its something we should all consider and clutch. Information security is centered around the utilization of individual data being gathered. While security concentrates more on shielding information from assaults. I can apply this to my life by keeping my passwords hidden, not sharing systems administration destinations, maintain a strategic distance from counterfeit messages, and securely put individual data where nobody can get reach of it. Numerous individuals attempt to utilize trend-setting innovation to take a few to get back some composure of numerous people groups data for instance like tricksters and to stay away from those fair don't give them what they need like your social security

ReplyDeletePrivacy is no doubt something everyone needs or wants. Everyone has a personal life that they do not want anyone else to know about so therefore people value their privacy. Security is also very important in an individuals life because people want their information kept secure and safe from the outside world. With the evolution of technology and how smart people can get with computers, online privacy and security is very important for everyone. An individuals banking info, social security, and identification can be found online and hackers are always out there trying to steal this information which is why security is taken for seriously so that privacy is not invaded. People try to pose as other people which is called identity theft and they will do things that are to the hackers advantage but will destroy the actual persons life.
Good points...Hackers do try to get information in several ways..
